Battement Degage vs Battement Tendu Ballet Term

Ballet term battement dégagé and battement tendu they are performed very similar. Battement Dégage the working foot raises about 4 inches from the floor with a pointed toes, then back into first or fifth position. Battement tendu The working foot slides from the first or fifth position to the second or fourth position without lifting the toes from the ground. Both knees are straight. When working foot reaches the pointed tendu position it then returns to fifth position or first position.

Battement tendu foot remains on the floor and Battement dégagé foot comes off the floor.
